Webex Overview
Review Webex setup requirements and limitations so you know what Recall bots can and can’t do in Webex meetings.
Limitations
Before getting started with Webex bots, there are some important limitations to be aware of
Some limitations depend on when your account was created: before or after October 14, 2026. To move an older account to the newer behavior, contact us.
Active speaker events
- After October 14, 2026: Active speaker events are available in every meeting.
- Before October 14, 2026: Active speaker events are only available if the meeting host is on a paid Webex account and has closed captions turned on for the meeting (see caption enablement settings here).
Without active speaker events the generated transcript will not be diarized, resulting in null speakers.
Audio
Only mixed audio is supported on Webex.
automatic_audio_output in Create Bot is not supported.
Video
- After October 14, 2026: Each participant's video is received separately, up to nine at once, so video layouts and separate video per participant are supported.
- Before October 14, 2026: Webex only supports one combined video stream with no support for layout configuration: the active speaker (prominent) and up to 6 other video participants (in a footer tray).
Captions
Captions through Webex's native transcription service are currently not supported. To transcribe a conversation in real-time on a Webex meeting, you'll need to use one of the AI Transcription Providers.
Chat
Sending chat messages on Webex is currently not supported.
Webinars
Webex webinars are not supported.
